This is my journal entry for Friday. Hope you enjoy it!
End of the year Concert by Jordan Lo
Chapter 1
Today was a bright and sunny day. It was almost the end of day and there was only one class left. It was my second favorite subject (after lunch) and the name was P.E. It was the beep test so everyone was not so excited. I don’t know how to explain how it works so just read on. Anyways, I was exhausted after the game of cops and robbers. Luckily, it was the girls that were up first and I felt a bit relieved. All of the girls lined up and got ready. “Beep, start level 1.1”, the speaker announced. All the girls ran to the other end and made it before the second beep. “Beep, level 1.2”, the speaker said after a few seconds after the girls made it to the other end. Again the girls made it and this went on and on until 4.3 where Gwyneth did not make it two times in a row and she was out. By the time the speaker announced 5.1, Rachel, Ting Yin, Vien and Gloria were the final four girls left. Pretty soon, Vien gave in followed by Gloria. Ting Yin and Rachel were the final two girls left. Rachel gave in at 6.2 and Ting Yin ran until 8.2. Ting Yin was the champion of the girls.
Chapter 2
Now it was the boys’ turn to race. I lined up on the line and waited for the beep. The boys were doing well until 3.2 where Alvin and River gave in. Then at 4.6, Sam and Vincent also gave in followed soon by Joshua, Lester, Ting Kang and Nahum. Hayson, Yanis, Nathan and I were the final four. After a while, Hayson and Nathan were out. Yanis and I were the only ones left. I thought that Yanis was sure going to beat me but I still tried my best and kept on going. After a while, I was shocked to see Yanis walking off. I was the only one left! I was so tired but I still kept on running. I really wanted to faint on the ground and pass out but my legs would not do it. I kept on running until 7.7. Many people were impressed about the fact that I outrun Yanis. They knew I was fast but they didn’t know that I can beat Yanis at the beep test. Our P.E teacher Mr. Barnstable led us upstairs to the dance room on the second floor. Mr. Barnstable passed out the fitness testing sheet for terms 1, 2 and 3. I showed improvement in the shuttle run, stork stand and beep test. I was pretty happy with my scores. After Mr. Barnstable went over some basketball moves, it was time to go home but the 5th to 12th grade would have to go to Diamond Hill for band concerts. I decided to fill my water bottle before I take bus 13D to my mom’s hospital for a doctor appointment.
Chapter 3
About ten minutes later, I was sitting in the front seat of my Grandpa Jackson’s van relaxing in the air conditioning and eating chicken nuggets and French fries from McDonalds and also drinking Sprite. Let me tell you how I got there instead of having to take bus 13D. As I was filling my bottle, someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around to see my cousin Mike standing there and he told me that his mom was waiting to pick him and me up. I told him I had to ride 13D and went to get my octopus and phone. I walked out and as I was walking out, my Aunt Connie came to pick me up along with Mike. She explained that she had came to see Mike’s performance in the chapel and that my mom knew about her picking me up. Mike’s little baby Brother Nick was in her arms. She had also brought McDonalds and we walked to the van where my Grandma Linda was waiting. I relaxed so much, eating stuff and drinking stuff. When we were close to my mom’s hospital, I started shoving fries into my mouth as fast as I could until I finished the packet. I got out of the van, met my mom and showed her the number 12 jersey Mrs. Zachheus had bought for me. We put stuff in the car and went off to see the doctor.
Chapter 4
After 15 to 20 minutes, I was sitting in a chair waiting for my turn to see the doctor. I told my mom all about my day and then it was my turn to see the doctor. I hopped into a chair and waited for the doctor. He told something to my mom and put some sort of wire thingy dipped in a special kind of liquid up my nostrils. It didn’t feel comfortable but I just waited for it to be over. Finally, after the doctor explained a few things to my mom, we went to get my medicine. It took a while but my mom said that we will come to get it later. We went to her office in Block F on the 8th floor, the highest in the building.
Chapter 5
Before I went into her office, I needed to use the washroom. After that, I just went into the office. I did my homework and I did it pretty fast. In about 10 minutes, I was done. I surfed the internet while waiting for the time to go home. Jeffrey, one of my mom’s workmates gave me a dessert from the fridge. I ate while used the computer. Sometime, the computer didn’t work and so I sneaked into my mom’s office, snatched a blank piece of paper and wrote the names of the students in classes 5F and 5Z. I looked and tried to see what letter appeared the most. It appeared that it was the letter A which appeared 32 times out of lots of letters. Then we left at six thirty. I was in a rush and so we quickly went home, changed and washed our faces and hands and then we drove to Diamond Hill. Oh man! Will I make it in time?
Chapter 6
I made it at about 7:11 and I asked Mr. Enns the principal where the grade fives was. He didn’t but luckily I found Mrs. Fleishauer the grade 5 teacher for 5F and she told Hon Wai and me that the grade fives was upstairs. We dashed up the stairs and found seats. We started to put our instruments together. Then, I had to use the bathroom. I asked the teacher for directions and I found the bathroom and used it. I went back upstairs and waited for our turn to practice with Mr. Stroud.
Chapter 7
We were the first band to perform and we performed our four songs which were Fanfare and March by Michael Sweeney, Bossa Blue by Barrie Gott, River’s Bend March by Bruce Pearson and Ayre and Dance by Bruce Pearson again. It did go well but not to well because I had 2 squeaks in Fanfare and March and River’s Bend March, 4 squeaks in Bossa Blue and about 5 to 9 in Ayre and Dance. In fact after Ayre and Dance, I was so frustrated with my salivary glands that I almost cried. But Rachel patted me and said that it wasn’t my fault. That made me feel a bit better but I still wanted to cry but luckily, I concentrated real hard and didn’t.
Chapter 8
The mandarin choir went downstairs to get ready to sing. It was after the Indian dance and the grade 6 band. We went outside to get ready. We went back inside and waited for the grade sixes. The choir went on stage and the first, second and third row all lined up. After 15 minutes, we started our performance. The piano played and we sang our song which (in English was called “Stream of Praise.”) We sang beautifully and did no mistakes. That was awesome!
Chapter 9
The grade fives enjoyed songs sang by the secondary choir. The songs included Stand by me and we are the world. Next, it was the 7th and 8th band combined together. There were songs that were catchy and great to hear. Those songs we clapped to the rhythm. After the seventh and eighth grade band put together, it was the high school band’s turn and it was grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 put together. After they’ve played two songs, the teachers showed two videos. One was about the high school band’s trip to Macao. The second was about secondary students that are graduating this year. Then they continued on to their last two songs.
Chapter 10
The third song rocked the grade fives like a hurricane. It was a song including “YMCA and This is the way I like it.” It was catchy and we clapped along. But the grade fives grinned as they heard a song River should know because he always sings it. Then, it was the grade fives that were going crazy when they heard YMCA. Almost the entire grade fives sang along. Even the girls like Yvette, Gwyneth, Vien, Gloria and Jamie. “He’s got to stay at the YMCA!” the grade fives (including me) sang. We loved that song. It was the grade fives that were doing that. It went on long and when it was over the grade fives let out one big cheer and clapped loudly.
Chapter 11
Finally, after the last song, it was time to go home. I met up with my mom and dad and we went home. But before we really went home, we brought my dinner which was a Crispy chicken fillet burger from McDonalds. When I went home, I took a shower, ate my dinner and started to write this story. Yes! I really mean this story you are reading. That night, I snuggled into my bed in the cool air conditioning. The beds were so comfortable and so soft. I had not much trouble going to sleep. There was another time where it was P.E class and we were playing baseball and I was real happy. But that’s another story!
THE END

The mystery of the chain letter
Man! Today is a mystery! I came home and suddenly there it was! A letter for me! Here's the copy of the letter below
This letter has been sent to you for good luck. The original copy is from the Netherlands. It has been around the world nine times. The luck has now been brought to you. You will receive good luck within four days of receiving this letter, provided that, in turn, you send it back out. DO NOT SEND MONEY. Do not keep this letter. It must leave your hands within ninety six hours of you receiving it. You must make twenty identical copies of this letter. Send it to your friends, parents, or associates. After a few days you will get a surprise. This is true if you are not superstitious. Take note of the following. Constantine Dino received the chain letter in 1953. He asked his secretary to make twenty copies and send them. A few days later, he won a lottery for two million dollars in his country. Carlo Canditt, an office employee received the chain letter. He forgot about it and a few days later he lost his job. He then found the chain letter and sent it to twenty people. Five days later he got an even better job. Dolon Fairchild received the chain letter and, not believing it, threw it away. Nine days later, he died. For no reason whatsoever should this chain be broken. Remember, `SEND NO MONEY. Please do not ignore this. IT WORKS!
I don't know about it. This letter has helped Constantine and Carlo. I am not superstitious but I don't know if I should ignore it and I wonder if anybody else received this. Should I be like Dolon and think that this is a joke? Tell me your suggestions.
